Momentum for Contemporary Culture (NGO)
ZAKHAM is a non-governmental organization and open community platform dedicated to shaping contemporary culture in Tunisia and beyond. With a strong local foundation and an international outlook, ZAKHAM fosters creative exchange across disciplines, generations, and geographies.
ZAKHAM is a joint platform for all projects founded by Aymen Gharbi and Bettina Pelz from 2015 – 2025 including the international light art project INTERFERENCE in the Medina of Tunis and the media art festival SEE DJERBA in Houmt Souk. It encompasses also the learning environments for artists, curators, and art mediators such as TASAWAR CURATORIAL STUDIOS and MOMENTUM CURATORIAL.
ZAKHAM’s activitivies evolve in multiple forms:
– Hosting public art projects, in particular the international light art festival INTERFERENCE in Tunis and the media art festival SEE DJERBA in Houmt Souk.
– Building learning environments for artists and curators, art mediators, and critics, producers, and documenters to experiment and innovate in contemporary art.
– Highlighting the natural and cultural heritage of Tunisia, ZAKHAM advocates for sustainable development through artistic projects.
– Engaging with the intersections of art, society, and social transformation, promoting inclusivity and dialog.
With every project and partnership, ZAKHAM builds momentum for the future of contemporary culture connecting local energy and international perspectives, art and community, tradition and innovation.
